In light of DGR’s continued assault on trans people, with language and analysis that denies the struggles of trans-people and even goes so far as to deny the value, worth and power of their existence in radical movements, labeling trans people as somehow “not real,” or as Post-Modern manifestations of individualism, the Earth First! Journal collective will no longer print or in any way promote DGR material. While we don’t need to agree with an individual or organization to find their words or actions relevant for discussion we will not continue to include those whose core expression of values continues to promote exclusion and oppression.

We may continue, from time to time, to publish articles that cover DGR actions and philosophy in order to continue the dialogue around the very serious concerns that have been raised over DGR’s organizational values and practices.

We formally request that Lierre Keith look deeper into the issues effecting trans communities in order to understand the damage her attacks on trans agency and motivations have caused and will continue to cause. Likewise, we request the same thing of all DGR organizers and furthermore request that DGR create gender inclusive workshops at future DGR gatherings.

Oklahoma has history of blocking pipeline construction | News OK:

Hundreds of pipelines crisscross Oklahoma, a state with a rich history of oil and natural gas activity, but its leaders haven’t always been friendly to the industry. In his second official act as governor after Oklahoma achieved statehood, Gov. Charles Haskell directed Washington County authorities to prevent construction of a natural gas pipeline by Standard Oil Co. in 1907. Haskell ordered the sheriff to arrest anyone who tried to “sink a spade” in Oklahoma soil, according to the Nov. 17, 1907, edition of The Daily Oklahoman. The sheriff gathered a large posse and stopped work in the pipeline within 200 feet of the Oklahoma border, according to a telegram the governor received from John Shea, of Bartlesville, who had been appointed special deputy county attorney. Standard Oil could not build the pipeline into Oklahoma before statehood because it could not secure right of way over Indian allotments. Construction of interstate pipelines was forbidden in the Oklahoma Constitution. The newspaper reported the Standard Oil pipeline would have given the company an “absolute monopoly” in exporting gas from Oklahoma. “I told the Standard Oil Co. and kindred monopolies before election that if they did not lick me at the polls I would lick them every day that I was governor until they decided to abide by the law,” Haskell said

More than 23,000 working and retired miners, and their spouses, could lose health care benefits, the report warns, especially in the wake of Patriot’s recent bankruptcy filing. “Schemes from the Boardroom: The War by Arch and Peabody On the Aging, Ill and Disabled” argues the two major coal companies moved their union workers to Patriot Coal to avoid paying health-care and other retirement benefits.

Sigh… This was in response to several trans people requesting that DGR leave the Law and Disorder conference.

Anyone else notice that there is nothing deep or resistant about the so called “Deep Green Resistance?” Shit, with it’s authoritarian marxist leanings it won’t be long before it isn’t green either. It’ll all become about economics and old left analysis the same way all the Marxist green groups eventually do.

Anyhow, transphobia, speciesism, cop-collaboration, and other nonsense run deep enough with DGR that I think they are best avoided.

Well… I’ve been reading Endgame and Jensen’s writings have been very eye opening to me but now I just want to puke on the book and throw it away.

It’s like I can’t ever find someone new to be inspired by before shortly discovering that they are a racist/sexist/transphobe/etc. Real cool.

funny how Brennan manages to track down every instance of transphobia, however obscure, and defend it. As far as I know, the bigoted and authoritarian aspects of DGR stem mostly from Lierre Keith’s involvement-I still think Jensen’s writing is worthwhile as inspiration and argument.

A massive new pipeline that will carry hydrofracked gas is being constructed in New York City. The pipeline, built by subsidiaries of Spectra Energy, will carry the gas from the Marcellus Shale, a bed that lies under Pennsylvania and New York State, into New York City’s gas infrastructure. Naturally, the construction of such a pipeline, carrying controversial highly pressurized gas, has been met with resistance.

In the spring of 2012, Occupy the Pipeline emerged, raising health and safety concerns about the pipeline.

For starters, the group states the Marcellus shale has seventy times the average radioactivity of natural gas and possesses extremely high radon content. Worse, monitoring radon content doesn’t appear to be a priority for federal regulators. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission stated radon risk assessment is “outside their purview.” High radon levels have been linked to increases in the risk of lung cancer among non-smokers.

Guatemalan president Otto Perez announced the move in an effort to quell protests targeting the mine belonging to Canadian miner Tahoe Resources Inc. Two people have been killed in the demonstrations. The company’s security guards shot and wounded six demonstrators on Saturday, said Mauricio Lopez, Guatemala’s security minister. The next day, protesters, who say the Escobal silver mine near the town of San Rafael Las Flores will contaminate local water supplies, kidnapped 23 police officers, Lopez said.
